2009 Nightrain

Hey Ive been looking at the Nighttrain as a purchase probally when winter breaks, did HD make any changes to the nighttrain from 08-09 or just changed the price $5. I mean wouldnt it make more sense to get the 08 with the discounts than the 09 if they didnt change anything.

If you find an 08 in the color you want, buy it and save some cash. Will still be sold as new, so 2 year warranty will apply(like the09) But..if it's something like $1000 off the 08, see if dealer is selling 09's with any free accessories (maybe $1000 in free acc??) Have them do the numbers to see what works for you financially. The 09 will have a higher re sale for you in two years (for example) if you want or need, to trade or sell. The difference in the bike itself from 08 to 09 is basically the colors that are available, so go to the dealer and check the deals..

There are no significant changes between the 08 and 09 model so if you want to save a few bucks get an 08. As stated it will have reduced resale value, but well, buy the bike to ride not sell a year or so later.

In simple terms from the 2009 Technical Changes
• New rear shocks
• New exhaust clamps and mounts
• New jiffy stand sensor
• New ECM with improved IAC valve software
(running change in January 08)
• New main wire harness – ignition connectors
changed
• New negative battery cable
• New front fender on FXSTB, FXSTC
I do like the looks of the new front fender.

fender is the only noticable change. i got into the same predicament after healing from my crash. smoky mountain hd was gonna give me an excellent deal on an 08, but it wasn't enough with an 09 sitting right beside it. ended up getting a used 08 for a good deal. here is the download with all the technical information. good luck

Local dealership has a low mile 07 Night Train for $14.5k. What significant changes were there between 07 and 08 and should I shy away from this due to price or problems?

the 07 has the old frame the 08 has the new one. the fender rails are bolted on instead of welded. basicly the rocker frame is the new frame for all softails. so instead of maing a frame just for the rocker they changed the frame for all the softails.

Thanks raaaaaa. It doesn't sound like it would affect handling. So the engine and trans are basically the same as an 08/09? I ended up getting the bike but it's good to know what's what.
